In today’s world, it is so difficult to stay positive and keep smiling. It seems like every situation you are placed in , comes with anxiety, worry, and stress. We are constantly bombarded with the idea that we need to buy things, wear certain brands, and get likes on social media to be happy. We are constantly comparing ourselves to others, without realizing we are all different and that is the absolute opposite of what we need to do to be happy. Start focusing on what makes YOU happy.
You can do little things daily to help keep you focused, calm, and ultimately feeling happier and accomplished at the end of the day.
1.Coffee and Yoga
Weather You are working or staying at home, start your day with your favorite beverage. Coffee, tea, whatever it may be. ( I do not recommend alcohol unless you’re on vacation at the beach!) Then if you’re able, do some yoga or quick breathing exercises. I’ve found morning yoga helps tremendously to prepare me for the day. Research has shown that breathing exercises are very beneficial for stress relief! I usually drink a big glass of ice water with lemon or cucumber after doing a yoga routine.
2. Make a list
Weather you work full time, are a stay at home parent , or somewhere in between, start your day by getting a note book and your favorite pen. For some reason, writing lists by hand is much more effective for me than simply typing a list on a phone.
Write down things that you need to do. Even if it’s something so tedious such as laundry. Then start writing down thinks you’d like to do. Such as, painting, exercising,or going to see and old friend for coffee. You can categorize them by top priority, if you’d like. Then whenever you complete a task, you can cross it off your list. I personally think doing this helps keep your mindset organized and feeling accomplished, when you are able to cross things off.
3.Keep going
Okay, so yoga , coffee, and lists are not the secret to happiness. But honestly ,they help me. Being happy is a skill. Happiness really is something you need to create yourself. So another thing you can do is to just keep going.Things are going to happen, you’re going to run into problems. You need to face these problems with a positive outlook. So when something doesn’t go as planned, think before you react! Take a deep breath and just tell yourself that you can and will solve this. I’m telling you, the mind is a powerful thing. If you are feeding it with good thoughts, you will see a difference in your typical day to day thinking.
4. Stop comparing yourself to others!
Seriously, just don’t! There will always be someone whom you think is prettier, thinner, smarter , or more successful than you. Block those thoughts out. You can’t continue to grow and improve yourself if you’re too worried about other people’s personal lives. Everyone is different. Appreciate your life. Think about all the wonderful things and people you have been blessed with, and be grateful.
5. Help someone
I always feel good when I do something nice for someone. If you see someone struggling with something at work, ask if they need a hand. Do something nice for your partner; make them their favorite dinner or pick them some wildflowers. Seriously it doesn’t have to be huge, compliment a stranger on their shoes. Just seeing that you’ve made someone else smile, is sure to give your mood a boost.
So even though it can sometimes be incredibly hard, remember that you have it in you to train yourself to be happier. If you think no one believes in you, you have to believe in yourself.
