The Forge: A Movie About Discipleship

You’ve just came back from an amazing place: a retreat, a concert filled with authentic and real worship or an inspirational movie. You sit on your couch and reflect. Wherever you went sparked something inside you to take action and follow Jesus Christ.

Movie synopsis

The movie centers on a 19-year-old named Isaiah Wright who has some growing up to do after graduating from high school with no plans for his life. His mom would like him to get a job and take on some responsibility. During the movie, Isaiah meets a successful businessman named Joshua Moore. through Isaiah’s new job at Moore fitness and the mentorship of his new friend, he learns to take responsibility and be a disciple in Jesus Christ.

Being a disciple by following God

Throughout the movie, Isaiah learns how to be a disciple and devote himself to Jesus Christ. Isaiah learns how to be a team member, time management skills, and above all he learns how to forgive others.

Being a leader

First, let us understand the definition of leadership. Leadership is someone who has the ability to lead others: individuals, groups, or teams to do a project. This could be a research project or building something such as a car or house. Without a leader, I think this could lead to chaos and stressful situations. At the beginning of the movie, Isaiah Wright does not have the capability or knowledge of being a leader, but by the end of the movie, he is tasked with leading the more fitness team in developing 3000 units for shipping. I believe this can also be translated to Jesus Christ. As children of God, sometimes we find ourselves in stressful situations. Happens more than we can count. With Jesus Christ and God’s help, he will lead us to do what is right.

Forgiveness

The movie also teaches about forgiveness. Isaiah has a father who left him and his mother. From what we know, we can probably assume the father left before the movie even began, although the movie does not tell us for sure. Because Isaiah has no father, I don’t think he has the knowledge to forgive others. Through the mentor Joshua and his own prayers, Isaiah realizes it’s better to forgive then keep it all bottled up inside. as children of God, we have all sinned or through past mistakes or making the same mistakes over and over again, God is relentless and he always forgives us no matter how bad we screw up.

Giving up on ourselves

This movie is a constant reminder that we shouldn’t quit after the first sign of failure. During the beginning of the movie, Isaiah quits looking for a job after he discovers the first place he goes to is closed. I think his mother learns to never give up on her son as well. God, our heavenly father, never gives up on us. He is always there and we can count on him for just about anything no matter how big or small it is.

Having faith in difficult situations

The last thing we are going to talk about is having faith in the desperate or stressful situations. The movie points everything to prayer. At the beginning, Isaiah’s mother praise that her son has the strength to find a job and take on some responsibility. Toward the middle of the movie, Isaiah prays to forgive his father. He also praised to God to help him give up his video games. By the end of the movie, Isaiah praise for himself and his team to be able to fill in order of 3000 units.

The Forge is an awesome movie with unbelievable cast members and an inspiring message. I believe everyone should see this movie be Forge it’s too late. You will walk out of the movie theater inspired and full for Jesus Christ!
