Getting into college changed my life, I simply just wanted to learn more and be surrounded by others who did too.
A college graduate can earn the bonuses of life by getting a job that earns a much bigger living wage, a lifestyle that becomes much more important because it is so demanding yet a college graduate becomes more disciplined and a kind of confidence that as a person can only achieve through experiences that a television show or a community can only give you glimpses of that changes you from a citizen to a worker to a student to a team player to a leader.
Graduating from High school was not an easy task because not only did I learn slowly - I had limitations that I did not understand. I had to take night classes to get the necessary credits to get my high school diploma from another school which was awful but right because I had a goal to go to college to become a writer.
I had attended a community college first because my great point average was too low to be acceptable to any of the 4-year colleges that I was looking at. So I went to Community College and only there, as I was encouraged to earn a Bachelor's Degree, I enjoyed my classes immensely and never once sold my textbooks or took an online class.
However, I did just give away by Remedial English book which will give the lucky reader a fantastic passing grade since my SAT' scores were quite terrible having prepared very poorly for it.
My favorite courses were Women in Literature, Media and Culture and Sociology, and Psychology, and my favorite assignments were text responses and essay assignments.
As a college student, I was able to meet other colleagues who share the same interests as myself even if I was not in the same background standing as they are financially or ethnically. I was treated with the expectation of the high standards that high school students had tried to portray "acting like an adult" in front of your teachers and parents on Report Card Day is transitioned in college life.
The classes, the faculty members, and the Starbucks that I went to every morning changed the perspective you have of yourself because they treat me differently which trained me to act differently too. I was a college student reaching for excellence that many adults had but not a lot of my peers.
While I was encouraged to attend my four-year institution and so I choose to apply, it seems a greater challenge to graduate from a community college than it is to apply to a 4-year institution. So, I had to demonstrate my writing skills to show the community college that I am a writer who is pursuing a writing career and wishes to graduate with my Associate's Degree.
When I graduated from my community college and went to study with the greatest, it was the happiest time of my life because I was going to a school that cared about my interests and I was sure that I would meet other people like me who would understand me better than my high school did.
Attending a 4-year institution was not easy at all! The standards of its education as well as what expectations of its students are completely different from a community college. The skill level is quite abrasive - obnoxious even - but with the patience and the right professors who guided me to the proper standards of how I should read a textbook. Me? I read every word and yes, kept every book!
My favorite courses were with a professor who I thought I loved and my favorite professor was Professor Ana Acosta. My favorite stories were from the Bible in Literature and the Classics.
The most challenging courses were my Journalism and Fiction writing classes that I am most grateful for. T.V and Radio inspired me to write and learn more while appreciating the world around me technologically speaking.
Sociology in Education was crucial to my curiosity about what makes a learning institution. As the years grew by, I started to think about the type of writer that I wanted to be and the type of leader I wanted to inspire in myself as I started to understand why college education is so important because if you do not have it, you are left knowing only how to read but not to think.
