Alpha Synuclein (SNCA, α-Synuclein) is a soluble protein expressed in the presynaptic and perinuclear regions of the central nervous system (CNS). SNCA is one of the earliest genes associated with Parkinson's disease (PD). SNCA is closely linked to the pathogenesis and associated dysfunction of PD and is the major component of Lewy bodies. At the same time, studies have shown that SNCA is involved in the pathological process of Alzheimer's disease (AD). More than 50% of AD patients have been found to have SNCA tangles in their brains, and patients with SNCA tangles tend to show faster cognitive decline than pure AD patients.
