Our brain is wired for learning. That’s what we do since the moment we are born. However, as we get older, we often sabotage our learning process by using strategies that are not effective. Many people cram, pull all-nighters or re read the sane information over and over. But that doesn’t help your brain learn. Rather, it hinders it. Lets take a look at these eleven evidence based strategies for learning that will improve your memory and help you do better in any situation!

1)Pay attention- paying attention is the first step in memorising. We must first thoroughly experience something in order to store it in our long-term memory. It is critical that you remove any distractions from your environment.
If you're reading while watching Netflix, you're probably not going to recall the plot of the TV show or the information on the page very well when you're done. Removing distractions from your environment is critical for learning. Turn off your phone's notifications as well and stay focused on the task at hand.


2)Enough sleep- When we sleep, our brain consolidates long-term memories. These memories can easily go away if you don't get enough sleep, so it's a good idea to have a decent night's sleep between your learning and the test. For example, if you study all night and then show up for the test without sleeping, you may discover that you don't recall much of what you learned!
This occurs because everything we accomplish during the day gets encoded and preserved more permanently during sleep. Has this ever happened to you?

6)Teach others- When we teach others about a topic, we have a greater understanding of it and can identify holes in our knowledge.
Teaching is a type of revision that also allows us to test our knowledge.
It also helps if there are others around to ask questions. When we clear their doubts, we clear our own and broaden our understanding.
If no one is present to hear the explanation, perhaps you might offer it to your dog or cat, or even to yourself in the mirror!


7)Learn in diffuse mode- Our brain has two modes of operation: concentrated mode and diffuse mode. When we are in focused mode, our entire attention is focused on what we are doing.
For example, when reading a chapter, it is critical that your brain is focused. The diffuse mode assists us in cementing our learning and completely understanding the principles. In diffuse mode, our brain is not focused on a single issue, but rather is forming connections and constructing a network using what we have just learned.

-Learn through videos- Videos can offer knowledge in a pleasant way that will stick with you. Find a channel that you enjoy and trust to supplement your study.
Make it a game- You can compete with a friend or with yourself. Who can learn this fastest? Can you finish it in a half-hour? Setting little goals and challenges can help to make the study session more engaging.


-Give yourself a prize-you may have chocolate or a movie waiting for you when you finish. This can help you keep on track during a particularly intense study session, but don't overdo it, or you'll end up eating too many sweets!
