Recently I watched The Holiday movie for the hundredth time and rediscovered why I love the movie so much. It's got holiday spirit, a meet-cute love story, a dreamy soundtrack, and super cute cottages!
A Nancy Meyers recipe for the perfect romantic film. It's got the OG movie stars of my day; Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, and Jack Black. Reminiscing over the film made me seriously think about renting out a cozy cottage for the holidays. If like me, you dreamed of one day having your own holiday in an adorable cottage, this article might be for you.
We'd all love to live in Iris's cozy and romantic home, unfortunately, the cottage was built only for the duration of filming and sadly is demolished. RIP beautiful cottage. However, you're in luck because I scoured Airbnb looking for THE picturesque cottages similar to the one in The Holiday. And they can be found in one of England's dreamiest vacation spots, the Cotswold!
Despite the Covid-19 restrictions still rampant in Europe, you can always save these places for when you can travel safely.
From $100/night.
The first thing that caught my eye in this cottage was the fireplace. My god what a cozy hearth! Airbnb was one of the few on my list that is below $100, depending on the time of year you go.
From $99/night
This cottage has a nice mix of contemporary and vintage pieces throughout the home. Although the patio makes it seem like it accommodates a large party, only 2 guests max are allowed.
From $120/night.
If you ever wanted to stay in what could be Jane Austen's home, this would be the place to book. The entire village looks like a picturesque scene from Sense & Sensibility.
From $120/night
The Minnow Cottage is over 200-years old but doesn't even look like it's aged. It might be a little home but still perfect for a couple visiting over the weekend. And the village has its own pub and cafe shop to explore.
From $83/night.
The cottage used to be a former rectory during the Victorian age. The town itself is quite small but has wonderful sights to see during your visit.
From $127/night.
A thatched cottage with a little pavilion garden to escape to, sign me up! This screams book-me-now-for-a-quiet-stay-to-read-in-the-garden.
From $150/night
This lovely cottage in Winchcombe brings together my love affair with British country homes, a beautiful-looking fireplace, picket fences, and an outside patio area.
From $195/night
The rustic wooden beams running through the living room area are just beautiful. A very spacious and sunny home to stay in. Bonus is the plush countryside you get to explore.
From $113/night
I like the little cottages even more so than the larger ones. They have a certain charm about them I can't escape from.
From $108/night
The hosts of this home did a beautiful job of combining traditional style with modern facilities. Looks extremely cozy and quiet to relax for the weekend.
From $96/night
What first caught my eye wasn't the outside of the house - thought beautiful - but the dining area overlooking the countryside. Picturesque!
From $112/night
I see a great-looking fireplace and winding staircase, I click on it. You also get your own private terrace with this rental.
From $99/night
A nice mixture of rustic and contemporary. The cottage is not a big space, there's only one bedroom, so it's only spacious enough for a couple spending the weekend together.
From $142/night
The gorgeous kitchen opens up to the garden and terrace area. Beautiful views! The home has up to a 4 guest limit, so perfect for a getaway with friends.
From $169/night
I saw the beautiful gardens and immediately saved this to my favorites list. The Coach House is adjacent to the Manor and shares the gardens, ponds, orchards, and other amenities.
I hope looking over this list got you excited for any future visits over the pond. Despite the covid restrictions and constant lockdowns, these dreamy cottage escapes are the perfect distractions. Thanks to Nancy Meyers, staying in an idyllic cottage is the dream.
I've always wanted to stay in a cozy cottage like the one from The Holiday! These listings are absolutely dreamy. That Weavers Cottage fireplace is calling my name.
Just watched The Holiday last night and was thinking the same thing! I'm definitely saving this list for future travel plans.
Anyone else notice how most of these cottages are actually more affordable than I expected? Under $150 per night is pretty reasonable for such charming places.
The Bibury cottage looks straight out of a Jane Austen novel! I'd love to write my next book there.
I stayed at the Minnow Cottage last year and it was even more beautiful in person. The local pub had amazing food too!
While these are lovely, I think they're a bit overhyped because of the movie. Regular hotels offer better amenities for the price.
I actually disagree about the hotel comparison. The charm and character of these cottages are worth so much more than a standard hotel room.
That thatched roof cottage in Halford is exactly what I pictured while watching The Holiday. The garden pavilion looks perfect for morning coffee.
Has anyone actually visited the Cotswolds? I'm wondering if it's as picturesque as these photos make it seem.
Yes! I went last summer. It's even more beautiful in person. Every village looks like a postcard.
The wooden beams in Clematis Cottage remind me of my grandparents' old house in Yorkshire. Such wonderful memories.
These prices seem too good to be true. There must be hidden fees or seasonal increases we're not seeing.
The Coach House gardens look incredible! Imagine having your morning tea surrounded by those flowers.
My only concern would be the heating in winter. These old cottages can get quite chilly.
I never realized how many of these cottages are actually quite small. Perfect for couples though!
That fireplace in the Weavers Cottage is absolutely massive! I can just picture curling up there with a good book.
The contemporary touches in some of these places really work well with the traditional architecture.
I wonder if any of these cottages inspired the set designers for The Holiday? The similarities are striking.
Actually spent Christmas in The Nook last year. The winding staircase is even more charming in person.
Does anyone know if these cottages are available year-round? I'd love to visit in autumn.
The kitchen in My Cottage is exactly what I want in my future home. That garden view is everything!
I'm surprised none of these are in Surrey, where The Holiday was supposed to be set.
