Everyone has their opinions on which decade has the best fashion. Some say the 70s fashion was the best, with the bell-bottoms and peasant blouses, and others say it was the 80s. In my younger years, I thought 90s clothes were so ugly and uncool. The loud patterns and wacky color combos were just not cute to me, or so I thought. Watching shows like Friends or The Nanny, made 90s fashion look stylish. Thanks to these shows, my own personal style has elements from this era.
"I'm just a simple girl with simple tastes."
Fran Fine wasn't completely wrong when she said that famous quote. Yes, her style could sometimes be loud and too colorful, but she knew how to dress without being too much. She has such a distinctive style and should be remembered for it. She is up there with other 90s fashion darlings such as Friends' Rachel Green & Clueless' Cher Horowitz.
As one of the popular icons of the 90s, Nanny Fine's style has largely gone underappreciated when compared to her popular counterparts. We can thank Nanny Fine for her contribution to fashion as much of today's looks that have come back into style were worn by her. The vests, cropped jackets, turtlenecks, mini dresses, animal print, and two-piece suits were just a few key pieces seen on the show. And what would Nanny Fine be without her signature two-piece suits seen in pretty much every episode!
Here are the 30 most iconic fashion looks Fran Fine wore in The Nanny:
Probably my all-time favorite outfit worn throughout the seasons, this Spring-inspired outfit was on-point. The pop of color with the striped top made it even classier. As it is spring season, I would swap out the turtleneck for a sleeveless black/white striped shirt with breathable fabric. Make it a weather-approved look.
Nanny Fine really did love her shirt and vest combos. It was hard to narrow down to just a few looks but this is one of my favorite vests. And probably one of the fewer very colorful vests worn throughout the show.
In the previous episode, Fran was wearing the same jacket but with a black turtleneck and light jeans. Repeat outfits constantly popped up throughout the seasons, and it was a nice touch.
Nanny Fine always had colorful shirts to wear on the show, this one, in particular, was a fun look. The outfit is very easy to replicate, just take a button-down shirt of your choice, tuck it in or tie it at the waist, and add some jeans to complete the look.
Funny enough, I've come across denim pants very similar to what Fran is wearing. The style has definitely come back in 2021.
Is it too weird to say I remember a family friend wearing a similar jacket in my childhood? For some reason, this outfit is giving me Professor vibes and I'm lovin' it.
Fran wore this outfit for a Christmas episode and I love how it's not the typical holiday look.
One of the many repeat outfits the audience saw throughout the show. The bejeweled jacket was such a hit in the episode, who wouldn't want to wear it.
I love the color coordination of this jacket & skirt combo. One of the more muted suits combos Fran has worn.
Absolutely would kill to wear this fun newspaper print suit. It's fun without coming across as too gaudy.
When it comes to dressing up for a glam night out, Fran has worn some drop-dead gorgeous dresses. This glitzy number was only seen in one scene, but it left quite an impact.
Such an iconic look. The bright pink coat took this outfit from a typical office look to something fun and modern.
Fran had her 'Audrey Hepburn' moment with this gorgeous gown. We don't usually see Fran with her hair in an up-do and it was a nice change from the norm.
The most retro-inspired outfit seen on The Nanny. Fran really rocked this vintage look!
The peasant blouse and floral pants are a cute look and not a print we've seen Fran wear much. She tends to stick to blacks, colors, stripes, and plaids.
Wearing her signature black mini skirts, Fran switches it up with this leather belted skirt.
One of the few times Fran's hair isn't in its usual half-updo, she looks like a bombshell in this dress. The earrings she wore were just gorgeous.
Going with the nautical theme, Fran looks beautiful in these wide-leg pants and striped shirt. One of the outfits that I wish we got to see again for longer than one scene.
I had to highlight this outfit, just look at the sleeves on this blazer! It's such a fun look with the cute plaid skirt.
The nod to Sharon's Basic Instinct scene was brilliant. The dress, heels, and white faux fur were a lethal combo.
At first, I didn't realize that the "skirt" was actually a dress. The thigh-high boots were an excellent choice to pair with this dress.
I would have such fun wearing this dress. It's got a party vibe to it.
This pink latex ensemble reminds me of the Grease 2 looks that Stephanie Zinone wore. Actually, both Fran & Val's outfits could be straight from Grease 2.
Another outfit that I would actually wear, though the platform heels are a bit too much for me. This is the type of sweater you can easily find in secondhand or vintage stores for an affordable price.
I love the shorts and tights fit Fran is wearing here. It's giving me a slight Las Vegas-card dealer look, but it still works.
Fran does color blocking like no other in this outfit.
Biker chic Fran is here to sweep you off your feet! Looking back, they were definitely inspired a bit by Grease 2 looks. 28. Season 2 Ep 23 Look
Gothic Nanny Fran in the house. Who knew wearing a black wig could bring out the sexy gothic look.
That hair. That cobalt blue leather, double-sided buttons set. What more could you ask for?
It was hard to narrow down the last entry on this list for many reasons. But, I kept coming back to this simple but still stylish look thanks to those sparkly sleeves.
To say that Fran Fine has superb taste in fashion would be the understatement of the year. Some of her outfit choices might be crazy and a bit over the top, but she pulled it off with finesse. The Nanny would not be the show it was without Nanny Fine's flare.
