After the massive release of Avengers: Endgame, Marvel has announced multiple films for the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe—many of which will be released in the next two years. Here's everything you should know about every confirmed upcoming film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Black Widow will be directed by Cate Shortland and will star Scarlett Johansson as the titular character. The story will take place between the stories of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, and is set to release in May of 2021.
The untitled sequel to Spider-Man: Far From Home will be directed by John Watts. Tom Holland will be returning as Spider-Man, with Benedict Cumberbatch also returning as Doctor Strange. It's rumored that previous Spider-Man stars Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will, at the least, have cameos in the film. Previous Spider-Man villains are also returning—with Alfred Molina as Doc Ock and Jamie Foxx as Electro. The film is expected to release in December 2021.
The Marvel comic book character Shang-Chi will be making his first-ever MCU appearance in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The film will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, with Simu Liu starring as Shang-Chi. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set to release in July of 2021.
Eternals will be directed by Chloé Zhao and takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The story follows an ancient alien race called the Eternals, and their attempt to save humanity. Eternals will star multiple actors and actresses, which include Angelina Jolie and Kit Harington. Eternals will release in November of 2021.
Benedict Cumberbatch will be returning as Doctor Strange in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The plot of the film is currently unknown, other than that it's a sequel to the original 2016 movie. The sequel will be directed by Sam Raimi, who is most known for directing the original Spider-Man trilogy. The film is expected to release in early 2022.
The story of Black Panther II is still unknown. It will be directed by Ryan Coogler. Even after the unfortunate loss of Chadwick Boseman, it has been stated that the role of T'Challa won't be recast. The current cast is unknown. The film is set to premiere in July of 2022.
The fourth entry in the Thor film series, Thor: Love and Thunder is currently in production and is being directed by Taika Waititi. Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor. However, the plot is still mostly unknown. Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled to release in May of 2022.
Brie Larson will return as the titular hero in Captain Marvel 2. The plot is currently unknown. The sequel is being directed by Nia DaCosta and is set to release in November of 2022.
Peyton Reed is currently directing Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are returning as Ant-Man and The Wasp respectively. The film's story has not yet been revealed; it's set to release in 2022, although an exact date is yet to be announced.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will star Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, with the rest of the original cast as returning characters. It is being directed by James Gunn and is expected to release sometime in 2023.
Almost nothing is currently known of both Fantastic Four and Blade, other than Fantastic Four will be directed by John Watts, and Blade will star Mahershala Ali. Both films have no confirmed release date.
