"Movies that may seem quite unreal, but sometimes can make you think about your own reality."
When in search of inspiration, I always look forward to movies that have inspired me at the core and given me a new perspective. Inspirational movies have always been a great contribution to the world as they lighten the spark of motivation in us, inspire us to become a better person, and never give up on our dreams.
Sometimes we feel so connected to a few movies, that we can relate to their characters and situations. Movies that can evoke so many emotions in us and entertain us, sometimes teach us a lot about life.
Watching movies can be an escape from reality but at the same time, a film can teach us a lot about human behavior, relationships, life, society, psychology, and more. Movies that teach you something meaningful and have an impact on shaping your life will always stay with you through your life and inspire you.
"Don't ever let somebody tell you... You can't do something. Not even me. You got a dream... You gotta protect it. People can't do somethin' themselves, they wanna tell you you can't do it. If you want somethin', go get it. Period."
In life, you will face many hardships that will act as a rock on the path of your dreams. It’s on you whether you want to keep going and achieve your dreams or to cry about the hardships. This film is a great example of how Chris worked hard to give himself and his son a better life. It was really hard for him as no one was there to believe that he can achieve his dream, his wife left him but still, he kept going on, no matter what happened.
He loved his son the most and wanted to provide him with a better life, so he worked hard for it. He knew he was at a very low point in his life, but he makes sure to bring himself out of it no matter what life throws at him. In the scene in which he finally gets the job that he wanted, the happiness of achieving what he wanted was reflecting on his face when he said “This part of my life... this little part.... is called Happiness".
When you are determined to achieve your dream, the happiness that you get at that very moment after achieving it becomes unmeasurable.
"We live, we die, and the wheels on the bus go round and round."
What if you knew the expiration date of your life? Would you sit there and cry about death or make the most out of your time that you are left with? Sometimes we just take life for granted thinking that we have enough time, but life is unpredictable and you never know when death comes to you. There is a well-known saying by Dr. Martin Luther King - “It does not matter how long you live, but how well you do it.” You have your time right in front of you, to fulfill the things that you wrote in your bucket list.
These two old gentlemen in the film knew that they were having cancer and they have a few days left to live. But they accepted the truth that they will die but while they have some time left they decided to make the most of it.
They taught us how to add value to others’ lives, to connect with our loved ones while you still have time, to not dwell on the past, to never take life for granted, and to find joy in the little things. They tried to fulfill their wishes on the bucket list and found happiness in the last few days of their life.
Live your life now to the fullest, you never know when it ends.
"There is no normal life that is free of pain."
We all have some bitter memories of our past that we don’t talk about, but keep hurting inside. It becomes even more painful when the reason is someone we were really close to in the past. As roger said, “Sometimes it’s hardest to forgive the ones we love.”
This film teaches us, that it's okay to get hurt sometimes and be vulnerable or be angry with those who hurt you but don’t let that change you into a person that you aren’t.
Though Lloyd was angry with his father because he abandoned his family but then slowly he forgave him when Roger helped him change his outlook on life. Because someday or the other you have to let go of the anger inside you and forgive people.
Until you let the anger inside you win, you will never heal from what hurts you. Everyone in this world is going through their own battles but a simple thing we can do to make this world a better place is to be “kind” and to make every human remember that they’re worthy and loved.
"You have to do the best with what God gave you."
We all as humans have our flaws and uniqueness which makes us who we are. There will be times, which will make you question your capabilities but that doesn’t mean that you aren’t capable enough to achieve something in life.
You just have to accept your own self and just keep going, there will be ups and downs in life but you can overcome any obstacle. You have to do your best with what you have and surely you will figure out what you’re capable of.
Life is a precious gift. While it’s still there, make it’s every moment count. Forrest’s mom used to say “‘Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.” So just keep going and love your close ones while they’re still there.
"All body types are beautiful."
We often get discouraged when someone body shames us. We don’t feel comfortable after hearing all the comments people pass. This movie has taught us how self-acceptance is a necessary element of our life. It doesn’t matter what body shape you’re, nothing can come between your dream if you have a strong intention of achieving it.
We as humans have different body shapes and one shouldn’t judge people on the basis of it. Brittany wanted to run the New York City marathon, but she gets to know from her doctor that she is unfit. She was lonely and had really low self-esteem but to achieve her goal she tried everything and kept going.
This shows that if you want to get something, you go and get it and no one can interrupt you on the path of your dreams. We as humans should stop trying to body shame each other, and accept the fact that everyone around you is a human as well and your bad comments can hurt them too. Sometimes self-acceptance & self-love doesn’t come early, but one can achieve them by taking tiny steps towards them.
"As long as you can still grab a breath, you fight. You breathe. Keep breathing."
When life feels unfair, we think of giving up instead of fighting back. But we often forget that there is always hope in our minds, even when there are bad days, at the end of the tunnel there is always light.
You just have to fight back the obstacles that come in your way. One should keep the flame of hope alive in oneself. You have to believe that you will get through all the tough times and you will not quit even if everyone quits on you. Even Hugh faced a lot of injuries, he was almost near death but the encouraging words from his wife kept him alive.
The saying in the film - “the wind cannot defeat a tree with strong roots”. This means that when you think, a storm of bad times will destruct you, you often forget that you have gone through many tough times and you can still come out of it as a warrior. You just have to be brave and believe in yourself.
"The worst part of having a mental illness is people expect you to behave as if you don't"
The film has a lot to say about one’s mental health, how it affects them, and how people neglecting it makes it even worse. It portrays how society ignores the people who are mentally ill, they treat them so differently, and that’s what I feel is not how a person should be treated.
Why can’t we all just take mental health seriously just like we care about our physical health? We as humans are equal despite all the differences, we all can help each other out instead of just ignoring things. There was a line which joker says to his therapist - "You Don't Listen, Do You?".
Do we really listen to what one has to say, about what one is going through or will we just sit there for just the sake of it and judge them. We have to stop ignoring the mental illness and actually help each other out by being kind because saying things out there just to be cool won’t make any difference if we deny taking action when the time comes.
We shouldn't hide behind the mask of happiness when we are really suffering mentally. We should always be open to sharing our problems with our close ones who may understand our mental state and help us out.
You should always watch movies that are not only entertaining but also add to your knowledge, motivate you to achieve your dreams, and as well as have something to teach. Such good films show us a different perspective on the way of life.
As Audrey Heprun once said, “Everything I learned I learned from the movies."
