Makeup is a worldwide, ever-growing industry and comes in all shapes and forms, and every country has its own style, from huge lashes with lots of contour to small lashes, natural blusher, and a bit of lipstick here and there! But let's look into the world of falsies, from the gorgeously soft and fluffy ones to the horrifically hard and tacky ones!
Lashes, lashes, lashes... a booming industry from £1 to over £100! You can find small ones, big ones, feathery ones, colored ones, strip ones, individuals, or even magnetic ones! The choice is yours... but where to start? That's what I'll be giving you a hand with, by looking into the best lashes that won't drain your bank account to those that you REALLY need to stay away from!
Beware of the cheap lashes! Although you might think it's a bargain I would advise you to be very careful as to what lashes and glues you use, the eye area can be very sensitive. Here are some of (in my opinion) the worst lashes to buy and the worst places to buy them from based on multiple factors...
Websites such as Shein, Pretty Little Thing, and many more. The main reason being that these companies are not renowned for their excellent quality, especially when it comes to makeup. The idea « fast » conjures up the idea that they aren't extremely meticulous on the quality of their products but rather the quantity which they can produce and how many they can sell. For this main reason, I would not advise purchasing fast fashion lashes because these might irritate your eyes due to the lower quality. In my experience, fast fashion lashes have a tendency to be quite rigid and therefore are hard to manipulate and bend to the shape of your eye, meaning that the corners often stick up end up digging into the corner of your eye.
Stores such as Poundland or the 99p store or Poundworld pride themselves on selling things for (believe it or not) £1! Most of these stores contain a 'makeup' section in which all the makeup is of lower quality, yes some of their products are real bargains but others are not good for your skin, especially given how sensitive the eyes can be. In this section, you can find a variety of makeup, from eyeshadow to brushes to lashes. The lashes these variety stores offer are of poor quality and may cause serious damage to the eyes due to chemicals that should not be in the eye area.
The lashes shown above are from Poundland's official webpage, although they appear to be 'dramatic' and rather good quality they are rigid and not very malleable. The other issue with cheap, low-quality falsies is that you will end up spending more in the long run as they will not last. Although it appears to be a great bargain, I would definitely advise spending a bit more on good quality long-lasting eyelashes!
Places such as Wish, extremely cheap online variety shopping, where you can find almost everything for (virtually) free! Some things are free and all you need to pay for is shipping! Amazing! Right? Hmmm... Not so much when you take into account the length of time you wait for the product and especially the quality when you finally see it.
As you can see in the above picture, the lash quality in the picture is dreadful! You can see the woman's real lashes underneath the falsies. They claim to be "thick" and "long" however they seem extremely thin and of poor quality. Honestly, from previous experience buying things from Wish (makeup and lashes) don't do it! You will cause unnecessary irritation to your eyes.
Now let's talk about the more positive side of falsies, the luxuriously soft, curly, and natural lashes! Remember you don't need to pay silly amounts for a good set of lashes, I normally set my budget between £5 and £10 for a good pair, or if they're on offer a set with multiple pairs within the same box. My preferred way to shop for makeup tends to be in person because then you can see the quality and whether the size is accurate. However, recently I have started buying online (due to stores being closed), on websites such as Eylure and Kiss, which are a decent price and very good quality!
Obviously, if you like your branded makeup then going straight to that specific makeup store would suit you best. Makeup brands and stores such as Kiko, Mac, Revolution, Yves Saint Laurent, and many more offer very good makeup and falsies. Although they might be a bit more expensive than beauty retailers and superstores they will be of very good quality!
I must admit these are usually my go-to because they always have the good brands in store for a good price. Retailers such as Boots or Superdrug are my favorite! These stores are brilliant for beginners, especially if you don't know what makeup suits your skin or which lashes would suit your eye shape.
Such as Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's, etc, I don't mind superstore lashes as they (more often than not) display good brands for a rather good price. Sure, there are exceptions but usually, they are rather good with their products.
SO... Which falsie brand is considered to be the best while on a budget?
This mainly depends on what you are looking for: big or small, feathery or colorful... Here are my top 3 favorites (budget) lash brands with a cheeky piccy of my favorite lashes:
Ardell's "Wispies", (piccy below) are my go-to lashes, they are soft, natural and rather malleable. These come as singles or in packs of 5 and vary from £5-£15, they are very good quality and especially given how cheap they are! A real bargain! Ardell's falsies are well-loved and for a good reason! They offer a wide range of styles for every preference!
Eylure's "Luxe Cashmere" is another one of my favorites as they last for ages! And, just look at them, they're GORGEOUS! They're so comfy you can hardly feel them, Eylure uses lots of fibers, making the falsies even softer. Their website 'Eylure' offers a very broad variety of falsies for everyone's liking and at a budget price! Between £7 and £20!
Kiss offers its customers a very broad variety of falsies from individuals to strip lashes. I must admit their lash glue is my favorite, it doesn't budge at all, and let's be real once you've had a couple of drinks the last thing you want to have to deal with is one of your lashes peeling off, right? These vary in price from £3/£4 up to £30.
Here is an example of one of their lashes that I use, you just need kiss' magnetic eyeliner: you just apply your liner as usual and the lashes will stick to it! If you like a simple and bold look, Kiss is for you!
I hope you enjoyed this little insight into where to get your falsies from and where not to!
