Anson Seabra (say-ah-bruh) is making his way into the music scene with several top hits that gained fame on TikTok. His top song, Welcome to Wonderland, has reached over 73 million listens on Spotify.
Seabra was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, where he took piano lessons and played in his school's bands. He went to college for computer science and took a job as a software engineer while also working on his music. In 2018, the singer/songwriter quit his job to pursue his music career full-time. He quickly built up a fan base with his passionate, thoughtful piano-driven ballads. In 2020, he released his debut album, Songs I Wrote in My Room, which included hits like "Trying My Best," "Broken," and "Last Time."
Here are Anson Seabra's top ten hits on Spotify.
This song is about heartbreak. Seabra says he felt safe in the eyes of his lover, but that they were also "such a perfect storm." "Even when you left me broke and cold there's nothing I want more," he writes, meaning that even though his love had left him broken and alone he still wanted to be with them.
In this song, Seabra writes about a broken relationship. They keep trying to make it work, but it just doesn't seem to be working. "Guess the last time wasn't the last time after all." He knows that they should stop trying, but he can't help but come back to his lover.
While not about heartbreak, this song still tells the story of someone who is broken. Seabra writes, "mama said gonna be alright, but mama doesn't know what it's like in my mind mama said, that the sun gonna shine, but mama don't know what it's like to want to die." He is broken and hurt on the inside. The thing that he "can't carry" anymore is the weight of his hurt. He is most likely struggling with depression or some sort of mental illness that is weighing him down.
Again, this song is not about heartbreak, but, quite obviously due to the title, it's about him being broken. He feels like he's broken, flawed, and worthless.
Robin Hood tells the story of a man who was robbed of all he had to give to his lover. "I gave you all I had to lose My skin, my soul, my finest jewels You stole it all for someone new and then You gave away the best of me My sins, my sweetest ecstasy To someone worth much less than me, yeah, you're my Robin Hood." As the story of Robin Hood, this person has stolen his "riches" and given them to someone else.
Another song about love, but this one is a bit different in that it doesn't necessarily talk about heartbreak. In this song, he knows that this relationship wouldn't work even though he tries. He says, "Then we won't make it along But hey, I guess that's us." This means that they've done this before and that this is simply the nature of their relationship. At the end of the song, however, he says, "Then we won't make it along But hey, I guess that's love." He sees love as a relationship of hurt.
Seabra's recent song, which he released in March of this year, 2021, called It's Raining, It's Pouring, has already reached over 4 million listens on Spotify and the official music video, which came out on March 17th, is already at 480,000 views. The video depicts the singer as a news reporter who seems to be struggling with internal problems.
The song is about heartbreak and feeling empty and alone. Seabra makes this clear with lyrics like "And I don't wanna cry, but I need you here 'cause I'm a mess" and "Come back home, just come back home." His love has left him, and now he is a mess because of this loss.
This one is pretty self-explanatory, but this song is about going through struggles and simply trying your best to get through. He may look like he's doing just fine, but on the inside, he's fighting a battle that no one can see.
Again, this song is pretty much what it sounds like. This song is a creative take on Alice in Wonderland.
Anson Seabra also came out with a new song in 2020 called Walked Through Hell. This song is also about heartbreak, the singer writing that he would've walked through hell to find a way to keep his partner with him. The music video for this song depicts Seabra in a loving relationship. The two of them have fun together, taking pictures of their adventures. However, at the end of the video, we see Seabra standing in front of a gravestone that belongs to his partner.
This is one of my favorite songs by Seabra because of how emotional it is. The lyrics are packed with passion and love, and it's intoxicating to listen to.
Here's his Spotify top ten if you just want to listen to some snippets of his hit songs.
